One of the most fabulous things we did in Prague during the Heart of Glass tour was to spend time with Rita at her Galanterie.
Rita curates the most beautiful Galanterie (haberdashery) shop with vintage, antique and modern stock from around the world in Prague .
Long ago I was given a handcrafted necklace made in the 1940’s or possibly a wee bit earlier, the giver suggested it maybe great for inspiration.
It was made in the era of ‘mend and make do’ , a beautiful necklace where beads were attached to decorative trims and ribbons .
So many times in the last 15 years I have tried to replicate my version of the antique necklace but the trims I could access just didn’t ’cut the mustard ‘ - until I met Rita and found her amazing range of trims .
This necklace has been made using the lush black trim and velvet ribbon from Rita’s combined with these pressed and faceted beads from the bead makers in Jablonec , a real collaboration from the gift of the old necklace which came from London , to me - then the final inspired necklace that took meeting Rita - nothing is ‘just’ a coincidence- this was years in the making , a little bit of magic !
